Getting started with the National Experiential Bridging Program (NEBP)

Explore answers to common questions about the National Experiential Bridging Program (NEBP), including eligibility, program components, application steps, and how the program supports internationally educated MRTs transitioning into Canadian practice.

If you have additional questions about the NEBP, program participation, or available supports and resources, the NEBP team is here to help. Whether you are exploring eligibility, preparing for certification, or learning more about the program, we welcome you to reach out at MRTPathways@camrt.ca

What is the National Experiential Bridging Program (NEBP)?

The NEBP (National Experiential Bridging Program) supports Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) in transitioning into Canadian practice through mentorship, job shadowing, and online learning.

Who is the NEBP for?

The program is designed for Internationally Educated Medical Radiation Technologists (IEMRTs) who are preparing to enter the Canadian MRT workforce and/or meet certification requirements.

How does the NEBP work?

The NEBP will launch as a pilot program.

The initial rollout will begin with the e-learning micro-certificate courses, followed by the mentorship and Observational Job Shadowing (OJS) components.

While this sequence reflects the recommended pathway for participants completing the full program, the NEBP is designed to evolve over time. As it develops, participants will have flexibility to engage with components in a way that best supports their individual learning needs, goals, and readiness for Canadian MRT practice.

Is there a cost to participate in the NEBP?

No. Participation in all components of the NEBP is free of charge during the pilot phase until, which runs until December 2027. Program details, including any updates to fees, will be communicated following the pilot phase.

Do I need to live in Canada to participate in the NEBP?

Yes. Participants must currently reside in Canada.

Is the NEBP an online program?

The NEBP is primarily delivered online. The only in-person component is the Observational Job Shadowing (OJS) program, which takes place in approved clinical settings.

What certificate(s) will I receive?

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion for each individual NEBP component successfully completed. Upon completion of all required NEBP components, participants will also receive a final NEBP Completion Certificate recognizing successful completion of the full program.

What do I need to access the mentorship platform?

To access the mentorship platform, mentees need a reliable internet connection and a device such as a computer, laptop, or tablet. The platform is accessed online.

How are mentors selected?

Mentees review mentor profiles on the platform and choose mentors based on their learning goals, experience areas, and availability. Each mentee may connect with up to two mentors.

How do I access the NEBP eLearning Micro-Certificate?

During the pilot project, NEBP participants will be granted complimentary access to the NEBP eLearning Micro-Certificate.  An account will be created for you in CAMRT’s Learning Management System (LMS), SmarterU. You will receive an email with instructions on how to access the platform and enroll in the available NEBP eLearning Micro-Certificate courses.

Once logged in, you can browse the available courses and self-enroll by selecting the “+Enroll” button. The NEBP eLearning Micro-Certificate courses can be found on the left-hand menu. When you are ready to begin a course, select the “Start” button. Your progress will be saved automatically, allowing you to complete courses at your own pace.

Please note:

  • Course content must be completed in the order presented (i.e., complete the course material before accessing the references, podcast and final quiz).
  • All required sections must be completed before you can access the final quiz.
  • You must select the “Submit” button after completing the final quiz to receive a completion result.

If you require assistance accessing the LMS or enrolling in a course, please contact the CAMRT NEBP team at MRTPathways@camrt.ca.

Do I get hands-on experience in the Observational Job Shadowing (OJS) Program component?

No. The role is passive observation only. Participants do not perform procedures or make patient care decisions. Limited interaction (such as introductions) may occur where appropriate to support learning.

How many hours is the OJS Program component ?

Participants complete approximately 15–25 hours of structured clinical observation.

What will I experience during the OJS Program component?

You will observe clinical workflows, interprofessional teamwork, and Canadian healthcare practices across MRT areas such as diagnostic imaging (including general radiography, CT, MRI, etc.), radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine.

Are all hospitals across Canada part of the OJS Program?

No. The OJS Program is delivered through healthcare organizations that have established a formal partnership with CAMRT. The program also prioritizes developing partnerships in regions with high demand for MRTs, including underserved and rural areas, to support equitable access to training and integration opportunities for IEMRTs across Canada.

What types of healthcare organizations participate in the OJS Program?

The OJS Program primarily collaborates with publicly funded healthcare organizations throughout Canada that have expressed interest in the NEBP program. These partner sites are typically public hospitals and healthcare facilities that provide Medical Radiation Technology services and are able to offer structured observational learning within clinical departments such as diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine.
